Our 2018-19 Middle School Musical Season

September 5, 2018

Each year, Project Success produces student musicals at three of our partner middle schools: Sanford, Marcy and Anwatin. Putting on professional and successful theater performances contributes to young peoples’ skills and self-esteem, and furthers our mission to help students dream, plan and succeed. We work to ensure close to a hundred students can participate in each production, in roles both on and off stage.

We are thrilled to share our 2018-19 season! Read more about each show below, and be sure to save the dates — shows do sell out!

Newsies
Sanford Middle School

November 30 and December 1, 2018

Set in turn-of-the-20th-century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When newspapers in the city refuse to lower the price of papers for the newsies, they retaliate with a strike—hitting tycoons like Joseph Pulitzer where it hurts. Based on the 1992 film, and inspired by the Newsboys’ Strike of 1899, this show provides thrills and plot twists, all while teaching lifelong lessons on how to fight for what you believe in..

Dear Edwina
Marcy Middle School

March 6, 7, 8 and March 13, 14, 15, 2019

Growing up with super-talented siblings, Edwina Spoonapple has come to believe that she isn’t as special or talented. This couldn’t be more untrue, and that’s exactly what she discovers as she tries to sing and dance her way to the “Advice-a-Palooza” festival. Through these shows she orchestrates with and for her community, she gives advice to her friends, and learns lessons on leadership, as well as what is really important in life.

The Lion King
Anwatin Middle School

May 31 and June 1, 2019

Young Simba is born into royalty as the sole heir to the Pride Lands of East Africa where this production takes place. As a young lion, he struggles with the death of his father, King Mufasa, and leaves his family and friends behind in a bout of guilt. But when the Pride falls into disarray under the rule of his uncle Scar, Simba must make the decision to return and take his rightful place as king of the Pride and save the family and friends that he left as a cub. .
