Adventures expose diverse opportunities to colleges, nature settings, and international settings.
BWCA Adventures & Outdoor Experiences
Project Success offers a 7-day canoe trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) every summer for middle school students. This experience builds upon their skills and confidence gained in Project Success’ in-class workshops and allows them to apply these skills in a real-life setting. Students learn teamwork, leadership, communication, and goal-setting while experiencing the beauty of the wilderness and a simple way of life. They come back with a sense of accomplishment that positively impacts their personal and educational growth.
“Each year I traveled to the BWCA, I came away from the trip with deeper skills. These trips have taught me that I am resilient. I can handle setbacks. I love being in nature for a week straight — it’s something everyone should do for the experience.”
— Henry, PS student
College and Career Tours
Our college tours empower students to think about their futures and create actionable plans to achieve their dreams. College visits are an opportunity for students to explore their goals, reflect on their own values, and feel better prepared to take on the college admissions process.
Analysis of Project Success participation data by Eric Moore, Chief of Academics and Accountability, Research and Equity Minneapolis Public Schools, finds that 67% of all students who attend PS college tours are more likely to graduate on time than students who do not participate, and that students who participate in a college tour show a 5% average increase in GPA (21% after 4 years).
“I am going to college because of Project Success. They have helped me every step of the way. I have a dream to fulfill.”
— Husna, PS Alumna
Our Global Experiences provide students with the opportunity to travel and have a transformative educational experience. Studies show that students between ages 12 and 18 who travel outside their region perform better in school and have higher earning potential as adults. Multicultural learning also enhances creativity and problem-solving skills, and helps students to think beyond their own perspectives. Through our programs, students have embarked on trips to destinations such as London, Paris, Washington D.C., and Boston, where they engage in Project Success curriculum that encourages reflection and learning throughout the entire journey.
“The trip [to London] helped me broaden my sense of how wide the world is, and how many possibilities there are.”
— Viola, PS Student
