Students engage in Youth Empowerment Summit & Celebrations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On Friday January 19, Project Success was invited to partner in hosting a Youth Empowerment Summit presented as part of Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan’s statewide week of celebrations in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Students from Minneapolis North, Edison, Northeast, along with students at FAIR Crystal, engaged with local STEM professional groups as they introduced students to real-life applications of STEM through hands-on activities that included coding, robotics, and drones. Teams of students then participated in a “hackathon” competition that required them to use their newfound STEM knowledge to propose solutions to problems facing our community. It was a meaningful day of learning and connection for PS students, their teachers, and PS staff. Project Success was grateful to partner on this event with our school communities, Minnesota STEM Partnership, Science Museum, and state leaders including Chief Equity Officer Dr. Stephanie Burrage and the MN Office of Equity, Opportunity, and Accessibility.
On the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday holiday, Project Success students, families, staff, and board participated in another impactful event, the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast hosted by General Mills and the United Negro College Fund. Keynote speaker Marley Dias, 19-year-old influential author and activist, delivered a compelling address on representation, community, and action – showcasing the power of young people to make a difference. General Mills generously sponsored tickets for Project Success students and families to attend this event. Project Success continues to be grateful for the ways we can work with our partners to be with our students to honor the legacy of the civil rights leader and discuss how we all can take action in our communities toward a more inclusive and just world.
