Kumbayah: The Juneteenth Story

This theatrical experience incorporates spoken word, art, music, and dance, and was first performed more than 30 years ago. Kumbayah: The Juneteenth Story takes audiences on a journey into the past, addressing the origins of Juneteenth and the imagined impact on the lives of individuals hearing the news of the Emancipation Proclamation and that the Civil War was over. This very special 30th Anniversary performance will include guest appearances from cast members who have been featured from the beginning, and other delightful surprises.

The approximate run time of the event is 90 minutes with no intermission.

Contains mature historical themes, specifically enslavement and emancipation. This performance is recommended for ages 10 and older.

Themes

Juneteenth is a reminder of a complex and painful history. What is the purpose of looking back at our history? And how might we navigate our emotions in a healthy way while doing so?
