This theatrical experience, written by Rose McGee, takes audiences on a journey into the past, addressing the origins of Juneteenth and the imagined impact on the lives of individuals hearing the news of the Emancipation Proclamation and that the Civil War was over. This performance is presented by Sweet Potato Comfort Pie in partnership with the Minnesota Humanities Center. 


Note: This show runs about 90 minutes with no intermission.

Themes

  • Juneteenth is a reminder of a complex and painful history. What is the purpose of looking back at our history? And how might we navigate our emotions in a healthy way while doing do?​
