1839, Talladega, Alabama: slavery is alive and doing quite well in the United States.  

1939, Hamburg, Germany: Hitler has called for the extermination of Jews.  

In this powerful, music-filled drama, the lives of Jewish children in hiding and African-American children fleeing slavery are woven together in a parallel journey of courage and survival. As the Jewish children plan their escape to Denmark, they draw strength from the story of Brave Mary, a teenage runaway slave on the Underground Railroad. Their stories unfold across time and place, revealing a shared resilience and reminding us that the fight for freedom and justice is a universal and ongoing struggle.

This show looks at two different tragic events in different centuries and places, and draws connections between them. How might we learn from or be inspired by someone else’s experience, even if it seems very different than our own?
