View Anytime – Ten Thousand Voices

This creative writing challenge engages Ten Thousand Things’ most isolated audiences in correctional facilities and senior communities. Participants responded to writing prompts to create an original poem, letter or essay. A diverse group of playwrights and dramaturgs read all submissions and selected 16 from correctional settings and nine from senior communities. Professional actors will read the work—shared via video thanks to a partnership with SPNN— in six episodes, which will be released beginning in November. All 61 submissions will be shared at a later date through a blog and podcast series that will involve the talent of TTT's Artist Core. Participants are from Minnesota Correctional Facilities in Stillwater, Shakopee, and Faribault; Ramsey County Corrections; Forensic Mental Health Program in St. Peter; multiple Episcopal Homes communities; Augustana Open Circle locations; and home programs and Screen Porch Productions in Outing, Minnesota. The first three acts will be from Corrections, followed by three new acts featuring the exceptional contributions from our Senior Communities.

Themes

  • This performance series highlights the voices of some of our most isolated communities. Is isolation different than solitude? Why or why not?
  • 2020 has been one of the most difficult years in recent memory. And for these communities, it has likely been even more challenging. Yet their written work is rich, vulnerable and imaginative. How is it that our voices can remain so vital despite everything happening around us?
Contains mature themes. Children should be 14 years of age or older to view this performance.
