Themes

  • In this opera, a pair of men decide to test the fidelity of their fiances, by way of disguise and deceit. By the end of the opera, all is revealed and seemingly forgiven. But will you agree with the outcome? If you were in the shoes of the fiances, would you make the same decisions? Why or why not?
  • The plot of the opera would not take place if not for the cynical view of love held by Don Alfonso. His perspective leads his friends astray. In real life, do people ever give bad advice to their friends?
