About the Show

TaikoArts Midwest proposes a simple, ground-breaking idea: bring the best North American and Japanese female taiko artists together for a two-week artist residency to collaborate and create a one-of-a-kind performance. Envisioned as a catalyst to fuel movement towards gender equity in taiko, this project celebrates and puts women center stage in a collaborative, unique performance.

Children should be 7 years of age or older to attend this performance. Childcare will be provided for those under the age of 7. Please let us know if you need childcare when you make your reservation.

Transportation

If you do not have access to a ride, call Project Success and we can provide transportation for you. Please let us know if you need a ride when you make your reservation. We will need at least 2 days’ notice to set up transportation.

This show is open to middle school students.

Invited students can pick up tickets at the Project Success table in the lobby of the theater on the dates of the performances. Please arrive 20 minutes before the show to pick up your tickets. Each student/family may receive up to 4 FREE tickets.

Themes

  • The HERbeat project is intended to promote gender equity in taiko drumming. Taiko drumming was originally performed by men, but that tradition has changed. What are other traditions, besides taiko, that have changed over time? And what kinds of changes do you think still need to occur?
