Kao Kalia Yang is a Twin Cities-based, Hmong American teacher, speaker, and writer. She is the award-winning author of the memoirs\u202f<\/span>The Latehomecomer<\/span><\/i>,\u202f<\/span>The Song Poet<\/span><\/i>,\u202f<\/span>Somewhere in the Unknown World<\/span><\/i>, and\u202f<\/span>Where Rivers Part<\/span><\/i>. Yang co-edited the groundbreaking book\u202f<\/span>What God is Honored Here?: Writings on Miscarriage and Infant Loss By and For Native Women and Women of Color<\/span><\/i>. She is a librettist for\u202f<\/span>The Song Poet<\/span><\/i>\u202fopera, commissioned by Minnesota Opera.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yang\u2019s work has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, a recipient of the National Book Critics Circle Award, and garnered seven Minnesota Book Awards. She is\u202f<\/span>Star Tribune<\/span><\/i>\u2019s 2024 Artist of the Year. Yang holds an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Carleton College. She is a McKnight, Soros, and Guggenheim fellow.<\/span><\/p>\n

Runtime is approximately 60-90 minutes, with Q&A and a book signing, immediately following the conversation.<\/span><\/p>\n
