SUMMARY:Haunted Harmonies
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this performance is currently waitlist only. \nPut on your favorite costume and invite a friend to join us for an evening of mischievous fun as we welcome famed trumpet soloist Caleb Hudson in his Northrop debut. Hudson and Northrop Organist Greg Zelek pair up for a spooky season-inspired concert.  \nFeaturing arrangements of haunted classics\, the spine-tingling program includes both classical triumphs of supernatural beauty and pop favorites resounding with silver-screen nostalgia. Behold the Baroque depths of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor plus the dark Romanticism of Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Danse Macabre” and Edvard Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King.” Enjoy the whimsy of Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” theme\, Danny Elfman’s “This Is Halloween” (from the animated classic “The Nightmare Before Christmas”) and selections from Vince Guaraldi’s “It’s the Great Pumpkin\, Charlie Brown.”  \nThe striking virtuosity of the trumpet paired with the thunderous power of the Northrop pipe organ will bewitch you and the whole family! \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis show is recommended for ages 10 and older. \nThemes\nThe music they chose for this show spans a wide range of styles and vibes. Imagine if all of these songs were in a playlist that someone gave you. What would this playlist tell you about the person that created it? \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. SUMMARY:Kunene and the King
DESCRIPTION:A powerful story of connection \nIn post-apartheid South Africa\, Lunga Kunene\, a no-nonsense\, Black caregiver with little patience for privilege or hubris\, finds himself providing in-home care for Jack Morris\, a celebrated (and stubborn) white actor facing a life-changing diagnosis as he rehearses for the title role in King Lear. The two men are different in every way — race\, class and politics\, to start — yet they find unexpected common ground in the words of Shakespeare. This deeply human drama by Tony winner John Kani\, who also plays Kunene\, traces the fragile work of truth-telling in a nation still shaped by its history and reveals how transcending the past may allow us to truly see one another.  \nRuntime is approximately 1 hour\, 40 minutes (no intermission). \nAll Performance Dates   \nTuesday\, 10/13 at 7pm  \nSunday\, 10/18 at 7pm  \nSunday\, 10/25 at 7pm  \n  \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nContains production effects\, mature language\, depictions and discussions of addiction\, and mentions of systemic racism. This performance is recommended for ages 12 and older with parent/guardian discretion. \nThemes\nPlaywright and actor John Kani is still experiencing the intense impact of living under apartheid in South Africa. Many decades later\, those experiences still affect him. Yet he has chosen to engage with that history in a creative way\, inviting the audience (and collaborating artists) to engage with that history along with him. What value do you see in using art to engage with difficult and complex experiences? Are there examples that you’ve seen in the past? \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. These accommodations are specific to each event\, and may not be available everywhere. SUMMARY:The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
DESCRIPTION:Please note: This performance is currently waitlist only. \nEdward Tulane is an expensive toy rabbit made of china. He is loved by a little girl named Abilene\, but Edward doesn’t care. He has no interest in anyone other than himself. On an ocean voyage\, Edward is accidentally thrown overboard and sinks to the bottom of the sea. So begins his journey—a journey over which he has no control\, for he is a toy rabbit. Through this miraculous journey\, Edward learns what it is to love\, what it is to lose that love\, and how to find the courage to love again. Based on Kate DiCamillo’s beautiful novel of the same name\, this is a short and accessible adaptation for young audiences and their families. \nThis performance is in collaboration with FAIR School for Arts! \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis performance is recommended for ages 6 and older. \nThemes\nThis is a story in which the main character is not a nice person\, at first. It requires the audience to have patience and witness Edward’s journey to becoming a more loving character. What are other examples of stories where the main character is hard to like? \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. These accommodations are specific to each event\, and may not be available everywhere. When registering with us\, please let us know what accommodations you need and we will follow up with you! \nTransportation\nIf you do not have access to a ride\, call Project Success and we can provide transportation for you. Please let us know if you need a ride when you make your reservation. We will need at least 2 days’ notice to set up transportation.
