SUMMARY:Tapestries 10.0 - Anniversary Edition
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the program’s tenth anniversary\, Threads Dance Project presents Tapestries 10.0 – Anniversary Edition. The Tapestries program has become an annual tradition—amplifying new choreographic voices\, with a special emphasis on female-identifying and BIPOC creators. To honor this milestone\, Tapestries 10.0 not only elevates two new emerging choreographers but welcomes back two previous creators from the program’s ten-year run. \nEmerging choreographers Lily Conforti and Brianna Johnson have each created new works for the company. Lily Conforti’s piece\, Big MILK\, is an exploration into and criticism of the US government’s inability to make systemic changes and the ineffective ways that they have thrown cheese at a problem. Brianna Johnson’s\, Deliberate Hold\, is a contemporary modern dance work exploring the profound resilience found in the intentional choice to be present and actively practice connection and care. \nReturning choreographer\, Gabby Abrams will remount her piece\, Release\, after being interrupted by the pandemic—revisiting the work with new eyes and new bodies. Rae Fox-Charles\, a multi-year Tapestries alumni\, will share a new work\, entitled\, Tracings of Traces\, which considers the lingering patterns of attachment and dysfunction throughout an imagined figure’s romantic history. \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis performance is recommended for ages 13 and older. \nThemes\nThe dance “Deliberate Hold” focuses on intentional presence and active connection and care. What might it mean to be intentionally present? And how might it look to actively connect with and care for someone else? \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. These accommodations are specific to each event\, and may not be available everywhere. When registering with us\, please let us know what accommodations you need and we will follow up with you! \nTransportation\nIf you do not have access to a ride\, call Project Success and we can provide transportation for you. Please let us know if you need a ride when you make your reservation. We will need at least 2 days’ notice to set up transportation. \nChildcare\nChildcare is available for this performance. Please let us know if you need childcare when you make your reservation.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Point of Knowing
DESCRIPTION:*Please note: this performance is currently waitlist only. \nThreads Dance Project’s Fall Show\, Beyond the Point of Knowing\, explores the challenges of never knowing what comes next\, what will change\, or where we’ll be tomorrow. The premiere work draws from Continental Drift Theory\, highlighting the slow\, imperceptible changes that shaped and continue to shape the earth. Recognizing that small movements – tectonic shifts\, idea shifts\, social uprisings – can lead to major planetary and societal changes.   \nArtistic Director Karen L. Charles collaborates with glass artist Anna Lehner to connect physical and social transformation via glass blowing\, movement\, and Continental Drift Theory\, posing the question: how can faith and hope help us accept what lies beyond our current understanding?  \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis performance is recommended for all ages.  \nThemes\nThis show explores the power of subtle\, slow changes over time. What is an example of subtle\, slow change in your own life?  \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. These accommodations are specific to each event\, and may not be available everywhere. SUMMARY:Threads Dance Project - Impressions
DESCRIPTION:Threads Dance Project’s Fall season performance excavates how our notions and impressions about each other and the world inform our sense of space\, place\, and knowing. Artistic Director Karen L. Charles continues to explore how movement can spark a new abolitionist movement with the premiere of Part 2 of its Abolition in Evolution triptych – Shoes; additionally\, Objet de Desir Inaccessible which premiered at Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) in 2019 will be reimagined for the stage.    \nShoes is an allegory using feet and the shoes that adorn them to represent journey\, judgment\, and individuality. “Our gait can reveal us to be buoyant or bullish\, dispirited or steadfast” (Cicely Tyson). What if we could walk uniquely yet together towards Utopia?   \nObjet de Désir Inaccessible (Unattainable Object of Desire) features Charles’ interpretation of the renowned painting Portrait of Madeleine (formerly titled Portrait of a Negress) utilizing research about the artist (Marie-Guillemine Benoist)\, her subject\, and their relationship to explore racism\, feminism\, identity and concepts of beauty.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPerformance Venue\nLuminary Arts Center \nAll Performance Dates\nFriday\, Nov 8 at 7:30pm\nSaturday\, Nov 9 at 2pm \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis production includes projected imagery of Objet de Désir Inaccessible by Marie-Guillemine Benoist\, which features partial nudity. This is recommended for ages 14 and older\, or younger with parent/guardian discretion. \nThemes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheir dance piece Shoes explores how we express ourselves through our daily movements. How might your style of movement be interpreted by others? Do you think their interpretations might match how you perceive yourself?\nTheir dance piece Objet de Désir Inaccessible (Unattainable Object of Desire) responds to a painting created in France\, in a very different time period. What is a work of art (from any medium) that you would like to respond to? Is it from an earlier time period\, or is it contemporary?\n\nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options.
