SUMMARY:Hmong Futures: The Future of Us
DESCRIPTION:AN INTERGENERATIONAL STORY OF HEALING\nHmong Futures: The Future of Us is an intergenerational story asking what it takes for a family to move from surviving to thriving. Anchoring the play are its protagonists\, three Hmong American women\, and it examines the conversations\, daily rituals\, and little moments that help us heal. To create this world premiere\, playwright Katie Ka Vang held community engagement events and discussions in 2025\, during the 50th anniversary of Southeast Asian people in Minnesota.   \n“As a first-generation Hmong American\, my worldview was largely shaped by my refugee parents’ lived experiences related to political persecution\, traumatic experiences\, displacement\, and poverty\, and I hope my work is a vessel for myself and my community to co-create ideas that point toward liberation and transformation\,” says Katie. \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis performance contains description of ICE raids\, strong adult language\, and a description of a physical fight between family members. Recommended for ages 13 and older with parent/guardian discretion. \nThemes\n\nOne theme in this show is the difference of perspective between generations. What are ways that you have been able to learn from (and maybe teach) those from earlier generations?\n\n\nThis family carries years of pain and doesn’t always speak about it openly. But in one way or another\, it becomes clear that things needs to be talked about. How might you approach sensitive or complicated conversations with loved ones?\n\nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. These accommodations are specific to each event\, and may not be available everywhere. When registering with us\, please let us know what accommodations you need and we will follow up with you! \nTransportation\nIf you do not have access to a ride\, call Project Success and we can provide transportation for you. Please let us know if you need a ride when you make your reservation. We will need at least 2 days’ notice to set up transportation. \nAdditional Media\nHere is a short video about the history of Hmong communities in Minnesota:

SUMMARY:Fifty Boxes of Earth
DESCRIPTION:WHERE DO YOU PLANT YOUR ROOTS? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this world premiere\, Q just moved to the neighborhood\, but instead of a bed\, they brought fifty boxes of earth for the community garden. When Q starts cultivating fantastical\, improbable plants\, one man’s distrust grows even as his young daughter reaches out in friendship. A creative response to Bram Stoker’s Dracula\, Fifty Boxes of Earth weaves in choreography and puppetry to consider the heavy costs of leaving a home and putting down new roots. \nNote: These dates are preview performances. \nPerformance Venue\nPark Square Theatre \nAll Performance Dates\nThursday\, 2/27 at 7:30pm\nFriday\, 2/28 at 7:30pm  \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nContains themes such as xenophobia and self-harm. This performance is recommended for ages 10 and older\, with parent/guardian discretion.  \nThemes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this play\, Q is new to the country and is seen as a threat by a neighbor. Despite consistently showing kindness and patience\, Q might never be trusted by this neighbor. How do you think they might coexist in community with this dynamic? What advice might you have for one or both characters?\n\nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options.
