SUMMARY:What the Constitution Means to Me
DESCRIPTION:Playwright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions. In this hilarious and hopeful play\, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the relationship between four generations of family and the founding document that shaped their lives. It offers a uniquely human look at our civic roots\, celebrating the enduring spirit of democracy with wit and heartfelt storytelling. This Tony-nominated and Pulitzer Prize finalist invites every citizen to reflect on their own place in the ongoing American story. \nPlease note: This performance will not allow for late seating. \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nContains mature and at times intense themes\, including descriptions of sexual violence within a family and threats of murder. This performance is recommended for ages 14 and older with parent/guardian discretion. \nThemes\n\nThis play highlights the ways in which a long-established document has failings and blind spots that directly affect us today. Why do you think it’s hard to change things that have been a certain way for a long time?\nOne of the main questions that this play asks is whether it is better to improve the current document\, or start over from scratch. This question is relevant for us in other contexts as well. What do you think the challenges of starting from scratch would be? How would you weigh the pros and cons?\nAlong with discussing how the Constitution works\, she shares how personally this document has affected the lives of four generations of women in her own family. What are ways in which government documents or laws have personal impacts for you and/or your loved ones?\n\nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. These accommodations are specific to each event\, and may not be available everywhere. When registering with us\, please let us know what accommodations you need and we will follow up with you! \nTransportation\nIf you do not have access to a ride\, call Project Success and we can provide transportation for you. Please let us know if you need a ride when you make your reservation. We will need at least 2 days’ notice to set up transportation. \nChildcare\nChildcare is available for this performance. Please let us know if you need childcare when you make your reservation. \nAdditional Media \nPlaywright and performer Heidi Schreck discusses the context and intent of the play:

SUMMARY:Singin’ in the Rain
DESCRIPTION:*Please note: This performance is currently waitlist only.*\n\nStep into the golden age of Hollywood with Singin’ in the Rain\, the splash-hit musical comedy about silent film stars navigating the bumpy (and hilarious) transition to “talkies.” In silent movies\, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a hot item\, but behind the scenes things aren’t always as they appear on the big screen! Meanwhile\, Lina’s squeaky voice might be the end of her career in “talking pictures” without the help of a talented young actress to do the talking and singing for her. Featuring unforgettable songs\, this feel-good classic is a love letter to movie magic and the joy of live theatre. Come ready to laugh\, swoon\, and tap your toes!\n\nPerformance Venue\nBloomington Center for the Arts \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nContains occasional allusions to physical violence. This performance is recommended for ages 11 and older\, with parent/guardian discretion. \nThemes\n\n\n\n\n\nThis show highlights a true moment in history: the transition from silent films to films recorded with sound (aka “talkies”). This was a significant shift for both the artists and audiences\, and not every artist had a successful transition into using their voice in films. What are examples today of an industry shift affecting someone’s career options? In what ways can we adapt to keep up with big changes? \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. SUMMARY:Sweet Charity
DESCRIPTION:SWEET CHARITY explores the turbulent love life of Charity Hope Valentine\, a hopelessly romantic but comically unfortunate dance hall hostess in New York City. With a tuneful\, groovy\, mid-1960s score featuring “Big Spender\,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now\,” and “I’m a Brass Band\,” Sweet Charity captures all the energy\, humor\, and heartbreak of Life in the Big City for an unfortunate but irrepressible optimist. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPerformance Venue\nBloomington Center for the Arts \nAll Performance Dates\nWednesday\, 2/12 at 7:30pm  \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nContains mature themes such as sex work and suggestive humor. This performance is recommended for ages 14 and older. \nThemes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCharity’s most prominent strength is also her most impactful vulnerability: her endless optimism. She finds herself being mistreated and taken advantage of\, while clinging to the hope that these people truly care about her. In your life\, what is an example of something you’re really good at\, but can also be difficult to manage?\n\nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options.
