Winter/Spring 2016 College Tours Bring Students to 18 Schools Across the Midwest

Every year, we look forward to the exciting energy that comes with bringing students on college tours, encouraging them to thoughtfully explore different colleges as they dream and plan for their futures.

On our college tours, students participate in workshops to prepare them for the college visit and application process, then tour campus and have the opportunity to hear from current students. This January, we brought more than 100 students to Winona State University, Hennepin Technical College, North Hennepin Community College, University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and the University of St. Thomas. Undergraduate student panels included Project Success alumni Husna Ibrahim at the University of Minnesota, and Billy Singvongsa, Nicole Dennis and Jocelyn McQuirter at the University of St. Thomas.

This year promises to be an exciting one as we expand the range of schools we visit and the ways we prepare students for a variety of post-secondary opportunities. The tours and accompanying curriculum expose students to a range of options for meeting the needs of a diverse future workforce and the goals of each student.

Our 2015-16 tours have brought us to private and public universities, including four-year colleges and trade schools focusing on professions in the technical field, the culinary arts, fine art and music production. In February, we’ll visit the Institute of Production and Recording (IPR) College of Creative Arts – a new addition to the Project Success college tour offerings, and an exciting opportunity for our students.

In addition to our local tours, we’re continuing a long tradition of taking overnight tours to colleges in the Midwest over students’ spring break in late March. About 50 students will visit two Wisconsin schools over two days; simultaneously, about 90 students will tour five Chicago area colleges and universities and the University of Wisconsin, Madison over four days.
