National and Regional College Tours to Visit Boston, North Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota this Week

October 26, 2015

We’re ramping up for another exciting week of Project Success college tours! We will be sending more than 200 students to seven colleges in four different states across the region and the country this week.

In addition to day trips to Minnesota State University – Mankato, Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Catherine’s Associate Campus, North Dakota State University, and Luther College in Iowa, we are partnering with Minneapolis Public Schools’ Division of Global Education to bring a group of 11th and 12th grade English Learner (EL) students to Boston University and Harvard University.

The students headed to Boston hail from 11 different MPS high schools, and were nominated by their school principals and EL lead teachers to take part in the trip.

Our college tours are one of the ways we empower students to think about their futures and create actionable plans to achieve their dreams. As we set out for Boston, we’re hoping this special trip will inspire students to explore their goals, reflect on their own values, and feel better prepared to take on the college admissions process.

Pa Kou Lee, an EL student at Roosevelt, is heading to Boston to “learn more about the necessary things these types of colleges look for in a student and explore the campuses,” she said. “My dream is to go to a four-year college, and graduate with a degree so I can help my family.”

All of these opportunities will encourage students to create unique future plans that best suit them as individuals and ignite a world of possibilities for them.

Thank you to Minneapolis Public Schools for their ongoing partnership. For more information, check out this MinnPost article on the upcoming Boston tours, or read this blog post from America’s Promise Alliance about Minneapolis Public Schools’ work with EL students.
