It’s Saturday, February 22nd. The sun is out and curious eyes are peering through the windows of yellow school buses and cars pulling into Theodore Wirth Park. It’s Winter Adventure Day. For the fifth consecutive year, Project Success teamed up with The Loppet Foundation to promote and engage youth in a variety of winter activities. This year Anwatin, Franklin, Northeast, and Olson Middle School students came to participate at this free event alongside their families and peers. Winter Adventure activities included: cross-country skiing, snowshoe hiking, sledding, tubing, orienteering, roasting marshmallows over an open fire to make s’mores, and face painting. Food, drinks, and transportation to and from Theodore Wirth Park were provided for ease of access so students and their families could focus solely on enjoying themselves and exploring the festivities.

When asked what activity the students enjoyed most, there was an overwhelming response of “tubing” as the go-to event. Tamauriah, a student from Franklin, said that she was apprehensive about the activity but ended up loving it. So much so, she spent most of her day hiking up the hill to slide down. Adyra, Lela, Siah, and Tasia, from Olson Middle School, all agreed. “Tubing was really fun,” Adyra said. The three girls beside her nodded in unison. A diverse group of 140 students and families attended this year’s Winter Adventure Day. The beautiful day gave students and families a chance to explore new activities or build on existing skills on a fun community day together.
