First In-Person College Tours since Feb 2020!

November 10, 2021

We are thrilled to return to in-person college tours! Over MEA break and November 5th, Project Success took nearly 400 students to visit 16 different college and university campuses across  Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Twin Cities. Excited for the opportunity to explore colleges first-hand, many students registered for multiple tours to compare their post-secondary options. One of our students shared that they “[didn’t] want to miss a single one!”

For the first time since the pandemic started in 2020, high schoolers had the opportunity to thoughtfully explore their college prospects through in-person admission chats, student panels, and campus tours. When asked what obstacles they faced, one student shared “I overcame the obstacle of stepping past my fears and getting started with my future by looking at colleges. Not only did PS help me, but it made me excited to tour colleges.”

Another student shared what they gained from the tour, “After looking at the college environment and the community, now I REALLY want to go.” With the revamping of 2021 in-person college tours, PS took a fresh approach to registration options, including using QR codes in addition to the familiar online registration process. PS also added direct text messages to students as a channel for college tour reminders. These efforts resulted in high student turnout, permitting students to be present during college tours; asking questions in admission sessions and exploring possible opportunities for their future.

Special thanks to interim College Tour Program Manager Katie Langemo for her attention to detail and keeping our students safe while exploring campuses.  An additional shout out to all the support from our excellent Project Success facilitators and program coordinators. We are thankful to our staff, the colleges we partnered with, and everyone who made these tours accessible for our students!
