Project Success’ Commitment to Supporting Students’ Mental Health

September 29, 2022

We are all facing a worrying trend. According to the CDC, nearly half of teens reported consistently feeling sad or hopeless last year. We have heard this from many of our own students. They struggle to engage in school and feel connected to each other and their goals. They want more support, more space, to make sense of it all. To feel hopeful for their futures.

But, even as the CDC warned of a crisis, it also reported that teens who felt connected to others at school felt better about themselves. We facilitate spaces to do just that – no matter where our programming occurs – and we recently acquired our entire Project Success building, providing a permanent space for students to discover, inspire, explore, connect and….BELONG.

This school year, we will help each 6-12th grade student we serve to develop skills like the following to navigate adversities and plan for their futures:

Self-awareness in every PS experience, we ask students thought-provoking questions to help them discover what makes them feel inspired and more importantly, motivated.

Self-management – we teach courses and provide challenging experiences that promote independence and responsibility, like through our certificate program and BWCA adventures.

Social awareness – we offer opportunities to grow in a social setting and engage in reflection periods, such as at theater events and through middle school musicals.

Relationship building – we provide a space to recognize and respect our differences and commonalities to create relationships that students couldn’t previously imagine.

Conscious decision making – we facilitate opportunities to help students learn the practice of making decisions, like how College and Career Tours help them see the future possibilities.

Project Success focuses on the student, providing time, space and support for students to think about themselves, what they want out of life, who they hope to be and how they are going to get there.Casey Briskin, English Teacher at Southwest High School

With plans to expand our reach, the Project Success Institute utilizes our space to bring work and life skill building to MPS students.

THANK YOU to PS for its unbelievable commitment to Northeast Middle School’s production of SHREK. My son is a 7th grader there, and it has been a doozy of a year. The fact that Miranda, Katie, and the rest of your team managed to drive it to production, despite all the obstacles, feels like a Christmas Miracle. It will be very emotional for us, as parents, to gather tomorrow night for this performance. Our kids deserve this win. THANK YOU for giving it to them. — PS Parent

We believe the key to success exists within each student if empowered to unlock it. Through Curriculum, Arts, Expeditions, and Certificates, we reach more than 15,000 Minneapolis students and provide opportunities – over 7 years of programs – to ignite hope and success from within by exploring the world, expanding the possibilities, and creating a plan for their futures.

Your gift today will help PS continue our programs at a time when empowering students to unlock their futures is needed more than ever. Thank you for your consideration!
