Growing our Project Success College Tours

Hundreds of students participated in Project Success college tours in October and November — we even marked our largest November college tour turnout to date!

Students had the opportunity to tour 17 schools over Minneapolis Public School break days, exploring schools in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota. They participated in workshops led by Project Success facilitators exploring topics like finding a school that’s a good fit, and applying for financial aid.

This year, we also partnered with the YWCA’s Girls Inc. Eureka! Program and Winona State University to offer students STEM-specific programming and presentations on our college tours. This included bringing young women particularly interested in STEM on our Winona tour to learn more about Composite Materials, Geoscience, Physics, Math and Statistics, Computer Science, Biology and Chemistry. They experienced presentations from heads of departments and professors, then participated in hands-on learning activities. The activities directly correlated to the different degrees offered at Winona that focus on, and can lead to careers in, STEM fields.

Things aren’t slowing down in the world of Project Success college tours: We are ramping up for our tours to Chicago over spring break of 2018, and applications will be available on our website starting in January.
