Embracing Global Perspectives, “And So I Did” Tours Mexico

"And So I Did" Cast Members in Mexico

Last month, nine students from high schools around the Twin Cities had the opportunity to perform “And So I Did” – a musical they created last year about their own experiences transitioning into high school – for thousands of local students, community members, business professionals and local leaders in Mexico.

Students, Project Success staff and Minneapolis Public Schools Deputy Education Officer, Elia Bruggeman, traveled to Mexico City and Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico – a Minneapolis sister city – in February as a part of our longstanding partnership with Minneapolis Public Schools.

The tour was an opportunity for the students to broaden their global perspectives, allowing them to develop more of the competencies and self-awareness that they will need in order to succeed as global citizens. For many of the cast, it was a life-changing experience they now bring home to share with their local community.

“As I walked onto that stage and poured all of who I am into that audience, it felt right. And when I heard those words “And so I did, and so I will continue to do, because I believe,” my heart pounded and I grinned because I believed in myself and there isn’t a better feeling in the world.” – Rudy Meyer, 10th grader, “And So I Did” Cast Member
