MPR Travel Scholar Returns from Paris

May 13, 2014

Molly Sheahan-Spector

Early in January, Roosevelt English teacher Molly Sheahan-Spector was selected from a competitive pool of Twin Cities educators to join Minnesota Public Radio on-air host, Kerri Miller as a Travel Scholar on the F. Scott’s Paris with Kerri Miller trip to Paris, France. Project Success and MPR partnered to design this unique opportunity to give a current 6-12 grade Project Success partner teacher the chance to experience F. Scott Fitzgerald’s writing legacy on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure and bring the experience to life for students and the trip participants.

“Molly’s energy is infectious. Her application made it clear that she is dedicated to the transformative use of literature for her students at Roosevelt High School.  We always want to help bring books to life and sometimes the best way to do that is by exploring the author’s life and inspirations. We hope that this program will do just that – not only for those on the trip, but also for Molly’s students,” said Miller.

Molly brought a little of Project Success to Paris

As the Travel Scholar on the trip from April 7 to April 13, Sheahan-Spector enriched the experience for fellow travelers on the trip, providing historical and literary context and creating engaging activities focusing on Fitzgerald’s writing legacy. She posted photos and videos on Facebook and YouTube to share with her students and other community followers. Upon her return, she began incorporating the subject matter back into Roosevelt’s classroom and community, integrating her own experiences into the curriculum.
