SUMMARY:Apostle Islands Kayak Trip
DESCRIPTION:Project Success partners with Wilderness Inquiry to provide an outdoor adventure that is accessible for current MPS 6th\, 7th\, and 8th grade students with physical\, health\, developmental\, social\, and cognitive needs.  This trip is designed to help students who might require extra support to access and enjoy outdoor recreational activities. \nStudents will experience a series of sea kayaking and land-based day trips from Wilderness Inquiry’s Little Sand Bay Base Camp. These trips could include the beautiful Mawikwe Sea Caves\, Bark Bay Slough\, or the shipwrecks of Red Cliff Bay! \nCheck back in to our blog later this summer to hear more about how this trip impacted these students!

DESCRIPTION:Please note: registration for this event has closed.\nProject Success Invites MPS middle school students to join us for a DAY OF SAILING! \nPS is teaming up with the folks at Minneapolis Sailing Center to bring you to the shores of Bde Maka Ska for a day of sailing! This program is perfect for first-time and newer sailors to learn to sail. Professional sailing coaches will take us through an introductory course teaching us all the basics needed to get on the water. \nStudents will board 23-foot Ensign Keelboats that have a weighted keel at the bottom of the boat\, preventing the boat from tipping over and keeping the passengers safe. Sailors will split into groups of 5-7 on each boat along with an instructor and will receive 2 90-minute lessons on the basics of sailing\, with a break for lunch between morning and afternoon sails. If the weather permits\, students will have the opportunity to swim.

With nearly 1\,000 student groups and a campus that spans the Mississippi River\, students can get involved in everything from solar car design to arts and outdoor adventures. Located in Minneapolis–St. Paul\, UMN offers access to music\, food\, culture\, and green spaces like Minnehaha Falls and the Chain of Lakes—making it a perfect blend of academics\, city life\, and nature. \nOn this tour students will receive a general admissions presentation and a tour of the East Bank main campus. They will also get to visit a few departments on the West Bank campus. Students will choose between two areas on the West Bank: \n\nVisit the Carlson School of Management and speak to faculty and students about the many areas of study including accounting\, business\, finance\, marketing\, management & entrepreneurship.\nExplore the Department of Arts\, Theater Arts & Dance touring areas of study in both the Regis and Rarig Center buildings. Known for strong undergraduate research\, top-ranked study abroad programs\, and 200+ student organizations—including the largest marching band in the Midwest—UWEC gives students big opportunities in a supportive environment. Stay tuned for more information on our website and in your emails from Project Success as we get closer to registration opening. \nOur BWCA Canoe Adventure will be back next summer and open to 6th\, 7th\, and 8th grade students from Andersen\, Anne Sullivan\, Anthony\, Anwatin\, Franklin\, Ella Baker\, Justice Page\, MPS Online\, Northeast\, Olson\, and Sanford Middle Schools to join us! \n\n\n\nThis week-long experience supports our programming by inspiring students to set goals\, practice support\, and experience success in the most beautiful setting in Minnesota. Students will be spending every day paddling canoes on beautiful lakes\, hiking wooded trails\, and moving through the wilderness each day to get to a new campsite. There will also be plenty of time for making new friends\, swimming\, looking for animals\, laughing\, exploring\, singing\, and bonding with fellow campers!

DESCRIPTION:Save the date!\nRegistration for our Apostle Islands Kayak Adventure will open on Monday\, February 1\, 2027. Stay tuned for more information on our website and in your emails from Project Success as we get closer to registration opening. \n \nProject Success partners with Wilderness Inquiry to provide an outdoor adventure that is accessible for current MPS 6th\, 7th\, and 8th grade students with physical\, health\, developmental\, social\, and cognitive needs.  This trip is designed to help students who might require extra support to access and enjoy outdoor recreational activities. \n\n\n \nThis 4-day adventure takes us to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore on the South Shore of Lake Superior. Students will experience a series of sea kayaking and land-based day trips from Wilderness Inquiry’s Little Sand Bay Base Camp. These trips could include the beautiful Mawikwe Sea Caves\, Bark Bay Slough\, or the shipwrecks of Red Cliff Bay.
