DESCRIPTION:You are invited to observe the iconic American modern dance powerhouse Paul Taylor Dance Company as they prepare for their evening performance!  \nThis free\, exclusive event will begin with a welcome from Artistic Director Michael Novak\, after which you’ll watch dancers\, musicians\, staff and crew at work during the first hour of their technical rehearsal. The rehearsal begins with a new work by choreographer Pam Tanowitz\, “Messengers\, Maidens and the End of Something Else\,” danced to Franz Schubert’s haunting “Death and the Maiden\,” with sets and costumes by visual artist Sarah Crowner. \nIf you would like to spend the afternoon on campus- between the open rehearsal and evening performance- consider attending the free opening festival of “Merciless” at the Weisman Art Museum\, which runs until 5:00 pm that day. \nPlease note: Project Success will not be hosting the afternoon event at the Weisman\, but you are welcome to attend independently! \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nRecommended for ages 11 and older. \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. DESCRIPTION:Please note: this performance is currently waitlist only. \nThe vigorous program showcases three contrasting works that explore the complexities of the human condition through Paul Taylor’s signature theatricality. It opens with the physically demanding dynamic geometry of Taylor’s “Brandenburgs” (Opus 88\, 1988)\, an exuberant\, gallant piece set to Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 3 and 6. \nFollowing “Brandenburgs” is a sensational new work by critically acclaimed choreographer Pam Tanowitz\, “Messengers\, Maidens and the End of Something Else\,” danced to Franz Schubert’s haunting “Death and the Maiden\,” with sets and costumes by visual artist Sarah Crowner. \nIn a somber shift\, the evening concludes with the company premiere of resident choreographer Robert Battle’s “No Longer Silent” (2007). The piece’s mechanical\, ritualistic movement is intensified with “Ogelala” (Ballettmysterium) Op. 53 by Erwin Schulhoff\, a Jewish composer whose work was banned in Nazi Germany. \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis performance is recommended for ages 11 and older. \nThemes\nIn Robert Battle’s “No Longer Silent\,” they explore connections between the experiences of people from different cultures.
