SUMMARY:The Butler Did It
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this performance is currently waitlist only. \nA witty and suspenseful comedy thriller in the grand tradition of Dial M for Murder and Columbo. \nJeffrey Hatcher’s original mystery\, The Butler Did It\, takes audiences to a school for butlers that serves the fabulously rich\, where a perfect murder has just been committed. The butler did it… but which butler? How? Why? And will the culprit get away with it when an unassuming detective named Inspector Denise is on the case? \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nContains mature themes including murder. This performance is recommended for ages 14 and older. \nThemes\n\nSome butler training includes adopting the mindset that you need to set your personal humanity aside while you’re at work. Some believe that personal emotions have no place in the workplace. Do you think this is true of other fields of work? If so\, what is one example that comes to mind?\n\n\nBeing a successful butler requires close attention to detail\, and sometimes it may be hard to understand why that level of detail is necessary. This is true for many jobs\, and maybe even in your work as a student. How might we motivate ourselves to maintain strict attention to detail\, especially in the moments that we don’t enjoy it?\n\nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. These accommodations are specific to each event\, and may not be available everywhere. When registering with us\, please let us know what accommodations you need and we will follow up with you! \nTransportation\nIf you do not have access to a ride\, call Project Success and we can provide transportation for you. Please let us know if you need a ride when you make your reservation. We will need at least 2 days’ notice to set up transportation. \nChildcare\nChildcare is available for this performance. Please let us know if you need childcare when you make your reservation. \nAdditional Media\nIt may not be common knowledge that there are schools that teach the skills to be a professional butler. Since this play is a murder mystery set in such a school\, you might like to know more about that environment in advance. Below are two options. The first video is pretty short and gives a general overview of the training that some receive. The second video is about a half hour\, but it is entertaining and informative. Whichever video you choose (if not both)\, try to imagine how a murder mystery could be written in this setting. Then at the show\, see how much of your vision is reflected in the show! \nShort video:  \n \nLong video:

SUMMARY:Day of Sailing!
DESCRIPTION:Please note: registration for this event has closed.\nProject Success Invites MPS middle school students to join us for a DAY OF SAILING! \nPS is teaming up with the folks at Minneapolis Sailing Center to bring you to the shores of Bde Maka Ska for a day of sailing! This program is perfect for first-time and newer sailors to learn to sail. Professional sailing coaches will take us through an introductory course teaching us all the basics needed to get on the water. \nStudents will board 23-foot Ensign Keelboats that have a weighted keel at the bottom of the boat\, preventing the boat from tipping over and keeping the passengers safe. Sailors will split into groups of 5-7 on each boat along with an instructor and will receive 2 90-minute lessons on the basics of sailing\, with a break for lunch between morning and afternoon sails. If the weather permits\, students will have the opportunity to swim.

SUMMARY:PS Teacher & Staff Appreciation Night at the Guthrie Theater
DESCRIPTION:Please note: Come From Away is currently waitlist only. There are still tickets available for Private Lives. \nPlease join us at the Guthrie Theater for MPS Teacher & Staff Appreciation Night! We have two show options for you to choose from. Descriptions and more information about each show are below. For this event\, teachers can register for up to two tickets per household. \nNew this year!\nBefore the performances\, we will be gathering in Gold Medal Park for a complimentary dinner\, drinks\, and dessert! La Cochinita food truck will be serving food with gluten-free and vegan options available. The truck will be serving food starting at 5:30 pm. \nCome From Away\nA musical inspired by true events \nAt 9:26 a.m. on September 11\, 2001\, the Federal Aviation Administration shuts down U.S. airspace in response to terrorist attacks\, forcing all inbound planes to find alternate destinations. In total\, 38 planes are diverted to Gander\, Newfoundland\, and the hospitable residents of the small Canadian town greet all 7\,000 passengers with food\, clothing and open hearts. By the time the “plane people” depart\, defenses are down\, romance blooms and lifelong friendships are formed. Based on the inspiring true story of Gander’s unexpected guests\, this hopeful musical honors our common humanity and highlights the importance of reaching out to those in need.  \nThree things to know: \n\nThe story follows the real-life timeline of airline passengers stranded in Newfoundland\, Canada\, after 9/11 closed U.S. airspace\, from the moment they land in the small town of Gander until the last plane departs.\nCome From Away deeply resonated with audiences when it premiered on Broadway\, receiving seven Tony Award nominations in 2017\, including Best Musical. \nDirector Kent Gash returns to the Guthrie after directing the musical Guys and Dolls in our 2018–2019 Season. \n\nPrivate Lives\nA quick-witted comedy\nIt’s been five years since divorcees Elyot and Amanda called it quits. It wasn’t that they didn’t adore each other — their union was just too tempestuous for their own good. Now they’re both on marriage number two and honeymooning at a popular resort town in France with their new spouses\, Sibyl and Victor\, who remain unconvinced that the flames between the former dynamic duo have fizzled. When the couples discover they are vacationing at the same hotel\, insults and romantic sparks fly until everyone is caught in the emotional crossfire and forced to follow their hearts. This delicious will-they-won’t-they comedy will have you rooting for the lovers and leave you laughing the whole way home.   \nThree things to know: \n\nThis witty comedy of manners is considered to be Noël Coward’s most famous work\, and it is revived often on London’s West End and beyond. \nPrivate Lives is a Guthrie audience favorite: We previously produced the play in our 1975–1976\, 1992–1993 and 2007–2008 Seasons. \nDirector David Ivers most recently helmed the Guthrie’s production of The Importance of Being Earnest in our 2023–2024 Season.
