SUMMARY:Much Ado About Nothing
DESCRIPTION:After years of war\, an idyllic Italian town is finally back in bloom. But young lovers Claudio and Hero\, and sparring singletons Beatrice and Benedick\, soon discover that all is not as it seems in their beautiful surroundings as they become entangled in a series of mischievous games\, pranks and plots. \n\nPerformance Venue\nU of M – Rarig Center \nAll Performance Dates\nFriday\, 4/4 at 7:30pm\nSaturday\, 4/5 at 2pm\nSunday\, 4/6 at 7:30pm \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis performance is recommended for ages 12 and older. \nThemes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMuch of the plot happens as a result of people listening in on others’ conversations\, as well as people knowing that someone is listening in on them. What are ways that this is relevant in today’s world?\nPerhaps the most intense and painful moment in the play is when someone is convinced that their partner has cheated on them\, and they respond in a particularly harsh and public manner. Do you think that the way we respond to negativity is important? Are there moral/ethical lines that our responses should not cross? Why or why not?\n\nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. Meet Lotte Schoen: lover of rules\, keeper of order\, and straightlaced inspector from the Preservation Trust. When Lettice theatrically “embellishes” the historical past of Fustian House\, Schoen calls her into her office….which triggers an unlikely beginning to an unlikely friendship. Filled with larger-than-life characters\, Peter Shaffer (Amadeus) explores the value of truth and beauty in this witty and charming British comedy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPerformance Venue\nTheatre in the Round Players\, Inc \nAll Performance Dates\nThursday\, 4/3 at 7:30pm\nSaturday\, 4/12 at 7:30pm (currently waitlist only) \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis performance is recommended for ages 14 and older. \nThemes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLettice Duffet has a passion for theater and imagination\, but it gets her into trouble when she begins to embellish and misrepresent historical facts. SUMMARY:Fun Home
DESCRIPTION:Note: This performance is currently waitlist only. \nThis groundbreaking and beloved Tony-winning Best Musical is inspired by Alison Bechdel’s best-selling graphic memoir.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIntrospective and refreshingly honest\, this hit musical is hailed as one of Broadway’s most original. Through the lens of three pivotal stages in Alison’s life\, Bechdel’s witty and wistful illustrated autobiography comes to life in this moving journey to acceptance\, directed by Addie Gorlin-Han. Looking back on her 1970s childhood in the family-owned funeral home and her complex relationship with her father\, Alison discovers they had more in common than she ever knew. \nPerformance Venue\nRitz Theater \nAll Performance Dates\nTuesday\, 4/1 at 7:30pm (Final dress rehearsal\, currently waitlist only)\nFriday\, 5/2 at 7:30pm (Currently waitlist only) \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nContains strong language and adult themes\, including verbal abuse and depictions of homophobia\, conversations/depictions of death by suicide\, allusions to sexual contact between an adult and teenagers\, and depictions of cannabis use. This performance is recommended for ages 13 and older with parent/guardian discretion. \nThemes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this true story\, we see Alison at three different ages of her life. We see the differences (and similarities) in Alison’s perspectives at each age. Looking at your own life\, what is one idea or perspective of yours that has changed since you were younger?\nAlison’s father\, for reasons we may not know\, makes deeply harmful choices that eventually affect the whole family. As a result\, each member of the family has to decide if forgiveness is possible. How do we address harm and healing with those we love most?\n\nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. These accommodations are specific to each event\, and may not be available everywhere. SUMMARY:Shamel Pitts – TRIBE Touch of RED
DESCRIPTION:2024 MacArthur Fellow and 2024 Doris Duke Artist Award winner Shamel Pitts performs in Touch of RED\, a multidisciplinary duet inspired by the rapid-fire footwork of boxing\, the African American jazz dance style Lindy-Hop\, Gaga movement language\, and nightlife culture. Set in a stylized “boxing” ring designed by the MacArthur Fellow Mimi Lien\, with the audience seated on the stage surrounding it\, this powerful dance duet examines the way Black men are perceived and perceive themselves in contemporary society\, and how masculinity and vulnerability can be reconsidered and reconciled in a non-combative\, compassionate\, and healing way. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBold. Boiled. Blood.   \nTouch of RED is part of the “RED Series” which continues the research to propose and share the colorfulness within Blackness\, creating a body of work that supports\, shelters\, and cultivates an Afrofuturistic performance art landscape in which the multitude of Black diversity and capacity is realized\, allowed\, nurtured\, and shared. \nNote: These seats are on the stage. \nPerformance Venue\nNorthrop Auditorium \nAll Performance Dates\nThursday\, 3/6 at 8pm \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis performance is recommended for ages 14 and older. \nThemes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis dance performance tells a story through an artistic version of boxing.
