AN INTERGENERATIONAL STORY OF HEALING<\/span><\/h5>\n

Hmong Futures: The Future of Us<\/span><\/i>\u00a0is an intergenerational story asking what it takes for a family to move from surviving to thriving. Anchoring the play are its protagonists, three Hmong American women, and it examines the conversations, daily rituals, and little moments that help us heal. To create this world premiere, playwright Katie Ka Vang held community engagement events and discussions in 2025, during the 50th anniversary of Southeast Asian people in Minnesota.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs a first-generation Hmong American, my worldview was largely shaped by my refugee parents’ lived experiences related to political persecution, traumatic experiences, displacement, and poverty, and I hope my work is a vessel for myself and my community to co-create ideas that point toward liberation and transformation,\u201d says Katie.<\/span><\/p>\n

    • This family carries years of pain and\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0always speak about it openly.\u00a0But in one way or another, it becomes clear that things\u00a0needs\u00a0to be talked about. How might you approach sensitive or complicated conversations with loved ones?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
