Threads Dance Project’s Fall season performance excavates how our notions and impressions about each other and the world inform our sense of space, place, and knowing. Artistic Director Karen L. Charles continues to explore how movement can spark a new abolitionist movement with the premiere of Part 2 of its Abolition in Evolution triptych \u2013 <\/span>Shoes;<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>additionally,\u00a0<\/span>Objet de Desir Inaccessible<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0which premiered at Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) in 2019 will be reimagined for the stage.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shoes\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>is an allegory using feet and the shoes that adorn them to represent journey, judgment, and individuality. \u201cOur gait can reveal us to be buoyant or bullish, dispirited or steadfast” (Cicely Tyson). What if we could walk uniquely yet together towards Utopia?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Objet de D\u00e9sir Inaccessible (Unattainable Object of Desire)<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0features Charles\u2019 interpretation of the renowned painting Portrait of Madeleine (formerly titled Portrait of a Negress) utilizing research about the artist (Marie-Guillemine Benoist), her subject, and their relationship to explore racism, feminism, identity and concepts of beauty.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

What is a work of art (from any medium) that you<\/em> would like to respond to? Is it from an earlier time period, or is it contemporary?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
