SUMMARY:Choreographers' Evening Curated by Ashwini Ramaswamy
DESCRIPTION:The Walker’s annual dance showcase celebrates Minnesota’s vibrant and diverse dance communities. Each year\, a roster of local choreographers and movement artists delivers powerful performances curated by a notable Minnesota dancemaker. \nThis year’s program is curated by dancer/choreographer Ashwini Ramaswamy. A founding member of Ragamala Dance Company\, Ramaswamy maintains a rigorous\, multidisciplinary practice rooted in classical Bharatanatyam dance. \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nMay contain mature themes. This performance is recommended for ages 11 and older with parent/guardian discretion. \nThemes\nAshwini Ramaswamy\, the curator for this year’s event\, is interested in how we “carry forward what we have inherited from the past while remaining responsive to the needs and realities of our time”. What is something you have inherited culturally and/or through family? Are there moments when that inheritance comes into friction with today’s world? \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. SUMMARY:A Christmas Carol
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this performance is currently waitlist only. \nA heartwarming holiday classic\nThe curmudgeonly Ebenezer Scrooge is visited one cold Christmas Eve by the ghost of his former business partner\, Jacob Marley\, who warns Scrooge to turn from his callous\, hard-hearted ways. That night\, three spirits carry Scrooge through time — into the shadows of his past\, the fragile realities of the present and the lonely fate that awaits if he doesn’t have a change of heart. Featuring original music and bursts of festive joy\, this faithful adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novella brings the streets of Victorian London to life\, celebrating the transformative power of compassion and second chances. \nThings to know: \n\nFaithful to the Dickens tale\, Lavina Jadhwani’s adaptation carefully tracks the moments when Scrooge becomes a willing participant in his own transformation\, from the nostalgia of seeing his boyhood school to the fear that Death will claim him before he can act on his change of heart. \nApproximately 315 props appear in the show\, including 15 lanterns\, 10 tombstones\, 37 presents\, 48 nonedible food props and a few edible items for actors to nibble on. \n\nRun time is approximately 1 hour\, 45 minutes with intermission. \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nContains loud noises\, strobe lights\, haze and fog. There are also descriptions of illness and death. This performance is recommended for ages 8 and older with parent/guardian discretion. \nThemes\nAt one point in his transformation\, Scrooge vows to live in the Past\, Present\, and Future. This is remarkable\, because each of these parts of his life carried a lot of pain…perhaps even more than happiness. Why do you think living in the Past\, Present and Future becomes important to him? Are there ways in which you do this as well\, in your own life and community? \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. These accommodations are specific to each event\, and may not be available everywhere. When registering with us\, please let us know what accommodations you need and we will follow up with you! \nTransportation\nIf you do not have access to a ride\, call Project Success and we can provide transportation for you. In this hit musical spectacular\, the grumpy green Grinch hatches a plan to steal Christmas from the cheerful Whos of Who-ville—snatching trees\, swiping stockings\, and sneaking away with every last present. SUMMARY:All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914
DESCRIPTION:The return of a beloved Latté Da tradition.\nOn a cold Christmas Eve along the Western Front\, as soldiers sat on opposite sides of the battlefield\, something extraordinary happened. The guns fell silent. Emerging into no-man’s-land\, enemies met not with violence\, but with song. Drawn from letters\, diaries and firsthand accounts\, this profoundly moving piece is told through stirring a cappella harmonies that illuminate a fleeting moment of shared humanity in the midst of war. \nIn a world that feels increasingly polarized and entrenched\, this story of soldiers stepping out of their trenches to sing together offers not naïve sentimentality\, but radical empathy and an invitation to rediscover the light that can emerge even in the darkest of times. \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nThis performance contains themes of war\, violence\, loss\, grief and sacrifice\, as well as references to battlefield injuries\, death\, and military weapons. Theatrical haze is also present. Recommended for ages 11 and older with parent/guardian discretion. \nThemes\nThis show highlights a true moment that seemed unlikely\, or even impossible. What is something you envision for today’s world that others might consider unlikely or impossible? \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options. These accommodations are specific to each event\, and may not be available everywhere. When registering with us\, please let us know what accommodations you need and we will follow up with you! \nTransportation\nIf you do not have access to a ride\, call Project Success and we can provide transportation for you. Please let us know if you need a ride when you make your reservation. We will need at least 2 days’ notice to set up transportation.

SUMMARY:The Taming
DESCRIPTION:Tweetering\, panda shrews\, and undying giddiness for James Madison – what else could you expect to find at a Miss America pageant? In this hilarious\, raucous\, all-female “power-play” inspired by Shakespeare‘s Shrew\, contestant Katherine has political aspirations to match her beauty pageant ambitions. All she needs to revolutionize the American government is the help of one senator‘s aide on the cusp of a career breakthrough\, and one bleeding-heart liberal blogger who will do anything for her cause. Well\, that and a semi-historically-accurate ether trip. \nHere‘s lookin‘ at you\, America. \nContent Warnings/Age Recommendations\nContains some mature language and humor\, flashing lights and fog. This performance is recommended for ages 13 and older with parent/guardian discretion. \nThemes\nThe main character\, Katherine\, aims to 1) win the Miss America pageant and 2) reimagine the constitutional foundations of the country. This goal includes bringing two ideological opposites into the same room (whether they want to be or not). This is a comedy and purposely tells an over-the-top story\, but speaks to real questions about our direction as a country. Do you think Katherine will reach her goals in this play? Why or why not? \nAccessibility\nMany performance venues offer accessibility accommodations such as wheelchair seating\, assistive listening\, sensory ear plugs\, ASL interpretation\, open captioning\, or audio description\, among other options.
