Hello Students, Staff, Parents, and Families of Washburn High School
We are so thrilled to be in our 2nd year at Washburn High School. Last year, our first year at Washburn was amazing, the staff and students made us feel right at home! Thank - You. We are looking forward to inspiring students to imagine the possibilities of their lives and then to take action towards making those possibilities a reality.
Harleigh is excited to continue her first year at Washburn! This year has been great so far. Washburn's freshmen class of 2013 displays amazing creativity, confidence, intelligence, and humor. In our "Suitcase Workshop," students made a poetic inventory of all the skills and gifts they carry with them into each day. With goal-mapping, students set a short-term goal and plotted out the steps to get there — many successes have already been reported! "High School Jeopardy" refreshed students' knowledge about all the resources available to them at Washburn and in the greater community. Our work with themes from Shakespeare's Macbeth led to short in-class-performances where students impressed with their ability to interpret theater and perform. In every workshop, Washburn students demonstrate their unique, diverse talents and their creativity in looking forward to bright futures.
Naheeda loves Washburn, and she’s always looking forward to being back in the classrooms and hallways of Wonderful Washburn High School! This year she’s working with 10th and 11th graders and seeing many 9th graders as well.
The year so far has been inspiring and amazing! With the Juniors we started out the year with value auction, it was a lot of fun and very interesting. My favorite workshop with the Juniors so far has been the “I wanna hear a poem about...” workshop, where they wrote about what they want for themselves 10 years from now. They were incredible writing pieces, very inspiring. This year we’ve had many juniors come with us on college tours, way to represent Washburn! You guys rock. There’s still more workshops and college tours to come....including a lego workshop and a spring break Chicago college tour!

With Sophmores we’ve been on a couple journeys! The first one being the survivor workshop, is was really fun taking students through a variety of situations and having them think about why they value what they value. The sophomores really value the family and friends they have in their lives, which was really heartwarming to see. We also took a journey to the College and Career Center and with the help of Mr. Perkins, we looked at options having to do with college. The sophomores also have legos to look forward to as well as a Macbeth workshop. Also sophomores check out our local college tours! Hope to see you soon... thanks for such a fabulous fall.” (if you have any questions or suggestions please email me)
Also Keep on eye out for these show opportunities...
