Welcome to the Project SUCCESS Southwest High School page!
Hello students, staff and parents of Southwest High school.
We are so excited to continue our fabulous year at Southwest High School!
We love SOUTHWEST! We have been a part of the Southwest High community since 2000, and we are still as passionate as ever about inspiring students to imagine the possibilities of their lives, and then to take action towards making those possibilities a reality.
Naheeda is excited to be in her third year at Southwest, she’s working with the 10th and 11th graders and also the Autism, Lifeskills and DHH programs. She is looking forward to a great year of workshops and to working with and being around her students... they’re amazing and inspiring!!!
“The students continue to amaze me, they really do! The juniors started out the school year with the value auction workshop and challenged me to improve my auction voice! We also did a collage workshop, and got to visualize goals and see what they’d like their futures to look like 10 years from now....and 27 is not old. Southwest juniors have been representing at college tours and theatre shows, I hope they continue to take advantage of good opportunities. I had so much fun doing the survivor workshop with the sophomores and we also got work done, the students thought about why they value what they value. In the odd jobs workshop we learned about dog food taste testers (yes they exist), the voice of Elmo, the clock master and we continued to think about what they want for their futures and what they’re passionate about. The Lifeskills program had a field trip to St. Kate’s, where they saw TU Dance, thanks for an amazing fieldtrip! What do you have to look forward to? Yes, there will be a Lego workshop and be ready for a thrilling workshop when we look at Macbeth (please email me with any questions or suggestions)."
Jeffry Lusiak is returning to the classrooms and hallways of fabulous Southwest High School for his fifth year. Facilitating the workshops with the 12th graders and the ELL and Lifeskills program this year, Jeffry can’t wait to help them all move a few steps closer to graduation and achieving their dreams.
Jason Brown is back for his 10th year at Southwest. Jason is looking forward to continuing his work with the fabulous students of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program.
Working with the Southwest freshmen has been an incredible experience. To sum up this group of fabulous individuals, the class of 2013 can be described as "Sharp, confident, goal-oriented, dynamic and fun." Their talents are broad ranging: students are focused and productive and also creative and comical. So far this year we've had a great time with students sharing and performing for each other often to express their values, their unique sets of skills and talents, and their goals for the future. With our "Suitcase Workshop" many students shared their poetic inventories of the personal assets they carry with them into each day. In our "Alter Ego" workshop, we discussed expectations and the importance of staying true to one's own expectations. Students have also taken advantage of free theater tickets and they are kicking off 2010 with a great response to our invitation to see Macbeth at the Guthrie.
