North High Field Trip to See The Meeting
In February, Project SUCCESS took a group of North High students to attend a performance of the thought-provoking play, The Meeting. The play depicted the hypothetical meeting between Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr., two historically significant figures who have shaped American views on peace, racial justice, and civil rights. Following the performance, students had a unique opportunity to participate in a discussion with cast members, Terry Bellamy and Ashford Thomas.
Marc Bamuthi Joseph Leads Special Workshop!
In February, Mrs. Linderg’s class at North High was privileged to have had the rare opportunity to have Marc Bamuthi Joseph lead them in a Project SUCCESS workshop. Bamuthi is a National Poetry Slam champion, Broadway veteran, featured artist on the past two seasons of Russell Simmons' Def Poetry on HBO, and a recipient of 2002 and 2004 National Performance Network Creation commissions. Bamuthi performed his own spoken word pieces with movement for the class, and then students were inspired to create their own poetry based on themes of struggle and self-identity. Students stated the workshop challenged them to reflect on and evaluate how they identify themselves and their methods of self expression.
