PeaceJam at Anwatin - Stop the Violence Event
The students at Anwatin are participating in PeaceJam, a foundation committed to creating positive change in students and their communities through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Laureates and civic engagement. Anwatin Middle School students have initiated a Stop the Violence Campaign to address violence within the North community. Anwatin students are seeking to raise awareness about current issues affecting them and their peers through their creative works. The Stop the Violence Campaign seeks to create a safe space for middle school students to express themselves and be agents of change. The STV Campaign will culminate with a special event held on Friday, April 18, from 7-8:30pm at the Urban League on Plymouth and Penn (North Minneapolis) and will include poetry, portraits and pictures from students, and guest artists including Tish Jones, El Guante, and Truthmaze! We hope to see you and your families there!

The Giver Field Trip for All 8th Grade Students!
This month Project SUCCESS is excited to be taking all 8th-grade students at Anwatin on a field trip to see a performance of The Giver at the Stages Theatre on March 20th & 26th. Many students are currently reading the story of the young boy living in a utopian, futuristic society who receives training from The Giver. The boy is challenged to examine the idea of living in a different kind of world, one with choices, joys, and struggles. Following the performance, students have the opportunity to participate in a discussion. We anticipate this will be an enjoyable and thought-provoking experience for students!
