Minneapolis Public Schools & Project SUCCESS Team Up for Camp 2012

For the past 15 years, Project SUCCESS has worked with Minneapolis Public Schools to serve students, inspiring them to realize their dreams and pursue their goals through theater, workshops, and individual attention. Project SUCCESS is excited to announce their newest initiative for this summer– 2012. Teaming up with the Minneapolis Public School District and the area’s high school principals, Project SUCCESS has designed a week-long camp specifically for 8th graders to prepare them for the transition into high school. The camp is completely FREE of charge and ALL 8th graders attending a Minneapolis Public High school are encouraged to attend.

Over the course of the week, 8th graders will experience a variety of exercises to prepare them for their first year of high school. Camp will begin on Monday, August 4th and run through Friday, August 8th.

To learn more about the activities and/or see a translated version of the 2012 brochure, please click here for the PDF version.  If you are interested in attending any or all of the days, or if you have any questions, please call 612.874.7710 or email: info@projectsuccess.org.

Hoedown Heyday!

Our marvelous co-worker, Ann Carter, is moving on to greener pastures. But not before we celebrated her time at Project SUCCESS with old-fashioned square dancing! Here are some pictures of our staff letting loose and dosy do-ing. We'll miss you Ann!  If you care to email Ann,  please click here.

2007 Comes To A Close

What an end to the year we had! Our workshops are in full swing and facilitators are back in the classroom come January. December was a busy month with several theater events. It was great seeing so many families at the holiday shows, which included A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at the SteppingStone Theatre and The Nutcracker put on by Minnesota Dance Theatre. We also saw some amazing percussive performances from the Hit It! Festival at the Southern Theater. The next round of invitations for our January shows should be hitting your homes soon so check your mail for invites that say FREE THEATER. Take a look at our theater calendar for a full schedule of what your school is invited to see.

“¿Y Ahora, Que? Pensando En Tu Futuro” and “Now What? Thinking About College"

This past year, one of our special projects here at Project SUCCESS was the creation and production of two half-hour television programs called “Now What? Thinking About College” and “¿Y Ahora, Que? Pensando En Tu Futuro”.   In partnership with Twin Cities Public Television and Get Ready/MN Office of Higher Education, we put together these programs that are designed to further our mission of inspiring young people to dream about their futures and start taking steps toward making those dreams a reality.

Here is a description of the programs:

“What will I do after high school?” is a question nearly all students ask themselves at some point. In Now What? Thinking About College, we are given the opportunity to sit in on a candid discussion among young people exploring this very question.

Imagine a small group of young people speaking openly about their futures, their fears, their hopes. What are their questions, their answers? What do they most want to know? In this program you will see middle school students and high school students having an open conversation with young adults in college and beyond. They delve into questions like: Is college right for me? Why should I go to college? What if my family doesn’t have a lot of money? Is there racism in college?  If I slacked off in 9th grade, is there any hope for me? How do I know what college to pick?

Now What? Thinking About College is a frank and intimate glimpse into the lives of real young people sharing real questions and answers.  The goal of this program is to offer students, parents, teachers, and counselors a practical tool for addressing the question of college. While both programs have similar themes and topics, they feature different students, and the Spanish speaking edition addresses issues specific to the Latino community.

To request a copy of both programs on DVD, including a helpful insert, please email us at info@projectsuccess.org.

Many thanks to our TPT and Get Ready partners for making this possible!

We would especially like to thank Daniel Bergin for his vision and commitment to this project, and to all the extraordinary work he does to inform, educate and inspire the public.

We are very honored that “Now What? Thinking About College” was recently nominated for a regional Emmy Award! This picture is of Ann Carter and Dan Bergin (the shows co-producers), and Project SUCCESS Board Member/TPT Consultant Tom Trow at the Regional Emmy Awards in October.

College Tours to various colleges and universities are already underway.  Two out of state trips to Chicago and Madison were a huge success. Students were able to visit seven different college and universities over a three-day period, getting a better idea of college campuses, programs offered, and college life. Check our website often for the latest college tour information!
