Our Largest BWCA Adventures Yet!

July 10, 2014

During the month of June 2014, Project Success brought 179 students from each of the 9 middle schools we serve to spend seven days in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA). This was our largest group ever, due to increased demand for the experience! In the BWCA, everything students learn and practice in their Project Success monthly workshops is condensed into a week-long experience. They develop confidence and skills, build relationships, and respect for the beauty of the wilderness and a simple way of life. For some, this is their first time out of the city.

Each group was led by a Project Success staff member or volunteer and a Wilderness Canoe Base guide. Of the 22 Project Success leaders, nine of them were Project Success alumni, one was a teacher, and one was a volunteer from Travelers! Many thanks to our volunteers and to Emma Harness and Wilderness Canoe Base for helping to accomodate the largest Project Success BWCA turnout ever! And thank you to The Minneapolis Foundation, the Marbrook Foundation, and the many individual donors who contributed to the scholarship fund which helps cover participation fees for 135 of the students.

Two of the trips were led by Project Success alumna, Brenna Bailey, who shared some of her thoughts about the experience. Click here to read her story.
